View citations

Every chat answer includes numbered citations that point to the exact passages Navigator used. Citations help you verify answers against your source documents.

Inline citation badges

In the answer text, citation numbers appear as small teal badges (for example [1], [2]). Click a badge to open the source preview panel on the right side of the screen.

Some answers also include:

  • Globe icons — external references (for example PubMed search results)
  • Shield icons — PI-verified content that a Principal Investigator has confirmed
  • Regulatory badges — governance or regulatory references (for example [Reg-1]), shown as small teal badges you can click to inspect

Source preview panel

The preview panel slides in from the right and shows:

  1. Document details — document type and file name
  2. Highlighted excerpt — the relevant passage from the document
  3. Document viewer — for PDF sources, an in-app viewer may scroll to the cited page; other file types show the extracted passage Navigator used

Close the panel with the X button or by clicking outside it on larger screens.

PI-verified citations

When a citation is marked PI Verified, it means a Principal Investigator has reviewed and confirmed that content. These appear with a green shield icon instead of a number.
