View citations
Every chat answer includes numbered citations that point to the exact passages Navigator used. Citations help you verify answers against your source documents.
Inline citation badges
In the answer text, citation numbers appear as small badges with a colored dot. Click a badge to open the source preview panel on the right side of the screen. The color tells you the source type:
- Gray - a passage from your study documents
- Green - PI-verified content a Principal Investigator has confirmed
- Blue - an external reference, for example a PubMed search result
- Amber - a governance or regulatory reference (for example
[Reg-1])
A badge covering more than one type shows overlapping dots; click it to open the full sources panel instead of a single preview.
Source preview panel
The preview panel slides in from the right and shows:
- Document details - document type and file name
- Highlighted excerpt - the relevant passage from the document
- Document viewer - for PDF sources, an in-app viewer may scroll to the cited page; other file types show the extracted passage Navigator used
Close the panel with the X button or by clicking outside it on larger screens.
Copy answer with citations
Use the Copy button on a message to copy the full answer text including citation references, useful for pasting into notes or emails.
PI-verified citations
When a citation is marked PI Verified, it means a Principal Investigator has reviewed and confirmed that content. These show with a green dot instead of gray.
